Former Kano State Governor and Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC) vice-presidential candidate, Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso, has criticised Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf over his recent political choices, accusing him of taking a decision that could have far-reaching consequences for his political future.
Kwankwaso made the remarks in a video circulated on Sunday, November 1, 2026, through the official X account of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
In the recording, the former governor alleged that Yusuf had taken a wrong political step and suggested that the incumbent governor was beginning to understand the implications of his actions.
He further claimed that Yusuf was making moves to frustrate the NDC’s chances of fielding a governorship candidate in Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to Kwankwaso, the governor’s recent political activities had raised questions about his intentions, particularly concerning the opposition party’s participation in the forthcoming governorship contest.
The NDC chieftain also referred to Yusuf’s repeated journeys to Abuja, arguing that the frequency of his visits could be connected to the political developments surrounding the governor and the unfolding situation ahead of the next election.
Speaking in the footage, Kwankwaso suggested that the governor’s regular movements between Kano and the Federal Capital Territory were linked to his realisation that his earlier political decision had placed him in a difficult position.
He said, “The reason I am saying this is that Abba Kabir Yusuf, the governor of Kano State, made a political mistake in the past and I believe he has now realised it. That explains why you have seen him travelling back and forth, day and night to Abuja.”
The former governor’s comments appear to reflect the growing disagreements between both political figures, whose relationship has attracted attention following developments in Kano’s political landscape.
Kwankwaso questioned the governor’s recent decisions and raised concerns about the possible implications of his alleged efforts to prevent the NDC from participating in the state’s governorship election.
He also linked the governor’s frequent visits to the nation’s capital to the unfolding political situation, although he did not provide further details about the specific engagements behind the trips.
The development comes as political alignments continue to shift across Kano State ahead of the 2027 general elections, with parties and influential political figures making preparations for the forthcoming contests.
Kwankwaso’s intervention has further brought attention to the disagreement involving the former governor and his successor, particularly over the political direction of Kano and the NDC’s participation in the next electoral cycle.
His remarks have also raised questions about the relationship between the two politicians and the possible consequences of their differences as preparations for the 2027 elections intensify.
However, the allegations concerning Yusuf’s intentions and his trips to Abuja were claims made by Kwankwaso during the recorded address.
