The Super Eagles have seen a substantial fall in the newest FIFA men’s rankings, unveiled on Thursday morning. Previously sitting at 30th, the three-time African champions have now descended to the 38th position.
This drop comes after a 1-1 stalemate with South Africa’s Bafana Bafana in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, followed by a 2-1 loss to Benin Republic in a match held in Ivory Coast, indicating difficulties in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers. As a result, Nigeria has slipped to fifth place in Africa, now ranking below Morocco, Senegal, Egypt, and Cote d’Ivoire.
In the global arena, Argentina remains at the top, with France, Belgium, Brazil, and England making up the rest of the top five.
Liberia’s Lone Stars made the biggest leap in the rankings, jumping 10 spots to achieve their best-ever position of 142nd and earning the most points, 37.47. On the other hand, Equatorial Guinea experienced the steepest drop, falling 10 places and losing 47.53 points. San Marino holds the lowest rank, with Eritrea the only unranked nation.
