The All Progressives Congress has begun its push for President Bola Tinubu’s return to Aso Rock in 2027, with its National Chairman, Nentawe Yilwatda, urging Nigerians to give the President another term to advance his policy agenda.
Speaking at the party’s presidential campaign launch in Kaduna on Saturday, Yilwatda argued that Tinubu needed more time to address Nigeria’s deep-rooted economic problems and turn government policies into tangible benefits for citizens.
The rally, held at Ranchers Bees Stadium, brought together top APC figures, elected officials and supporters as the ruling party intensified preparations for the next general election.
Yilwatda defended the President’s approach to governance, pointing to efforts to tackle economic pressures, improve public infrastructure and set the country on a path towards sustained development.
He said the APC would make the President’s policy decisions, government activities and future proposals central to its appeal to the electorate.
The party chairman also portrayed the APC as politically positioned for the contest, citing backing from governors and political movements involving the Accord Party, the Peoples Democratic Party and the All Progressives Grand Alliance.
He maintained that the party’s priority should be to build on work already undertaken, widen access to opportunities and improve household welfare through the Renewed Hope Agenda.
As part of proceedings at the rally, Yilwatda distributed APC flags to seven governors from the North-West seeking re-election.
The recipients were Kaduna Governor Uba Sani, Abba Yusuf of Kano, Dikko Radda of Katsina, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Nasir Idris of Kebbi, Ahmad Aliyu of Sokoto and Dauda Lawal of Zamfara.
INEC has set January 16, 2027, as the date for the presidential poll.
Tinubu attended the gathering alongside Vice President Kashim Shettima, Senate President Godswill Akpabio and House Speaker Tajudeen Abbas.
Also in attendance were First Lady Oluremi Tinubu, Nana Shettima, governors, ministers, senators, federal lawmakers, former governors, other public officials, APC National Secretary Ajibola Basiru and party loyalists.
