Nigeria’s Federal Government has announced plans to send its first citizen into space, GISTSMATE MEDIA reports. This groundbreaking news was revealed by Dr. Mathew Adepoju, Director General of the National Space Research and Development Agency (NASRDA), at a press conference in Abuja on Wednesday.

Dr. Adepoju disclosed that the government has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Space Exploration and Research Agency (SERA) to facilitate this ambitious project. He pointed out that this endeavor will position Nigeria among the nations engaging in human spaceflight.

Marking a major milestone, this collaboration coincides with Nigeria’s 25th year of space exploration efforts, opening new avenues for scientific research and technological advancement.

Dr. Adepoju highlighted that this initiative is expected to drive technological progress and encourage Nigerian youth to pursue careers in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics). He noted that it aligns with NASRDA’s long-term objectives of leveraging space technology for national development and enhancing global competitiveness.

He also assured that the project will be conducted with the utmost standards of safety and professionalism, drawing on international expertise and best practices.
