Adeleke Heads to UK for Check-Up

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has travelled outside Nigeria for a brief holiday following the completion of the state’s recent governorship election.

According to information released by his media aide, Olawale Rasheed, the governor departed the country on Sunday, September 6, 2026, beginning a period of rest outside the country.

Rasheed explained that Adeleke’s overseas trip was planned to combine relaxation with routine medical examinations in the United Kingdom.

During his time abroad, the governor is expected to visit the UK, where he will undergo medical checks as part of the activities scheduled for the trip. He is also expected to travel to other European locations while away, although his spokesperson did not disclose the specific countries or cities that would form part of his itinerary.

No definite date has been announced for Adeleke’s return to Nigeria. His office also did not provide information regarding the length of time he intends to spend outside the country.

The governor’s departure comes soon after the conclusion of the electoral process in Osun State, where he secured another term in office.

Adeleke emerged victorious in his re-election campaign, defeating the candidate of the All Progressives Congress (APC), Bola Oyebamiji, who was regarded as his main challenger during the contest.

The outcome allows Adeleke to continue leading the state as he prepares to enter another phase of his administration.

Following the completion of his holiday and medical assessment, the governor is expected to return to Osun and continue his official duties.

His administration explained that the temporary absence would provide an opportunity for him to unwind after the demands of the election period and regain strength ahead of the responsibilities awaiting him.

The break is also expected to give the governor time to reflect on the next stage of his administration and prepare for the challenges associated with his renewed mandate.

Adeleke, according to a statement attributed to him, said the decision to take some time away was aimed at helping him recharge before resuming his duties.

The governor emphasised his commitment to continuing his service to the people of Osun State after completing the planned break.

“I am taking a short break to refresh and get further prepared to serve the good people of Osun State,” Adeleke was quoted as saying.

The governor’s foreign trip has therefore been described by his office as a combination of personal relaxation and routine health assessment.

While the precise details of his European schedule remain undisclosed, the United Kingdom is confirmed as one of his destinations because of the planned medical examination.

Adeleke is expected to return to Osun State after completing the engagements associated with the trip and resume the affairs of government.

His departure marks a brief pause in his official activities following an intense period of political campaigning and the conclusion of the governorship election.

The governor’s office has not indicated any interruption to the functioning of the state administration during his absence. Further information concerning his return schedule or additional destinations may be made available by his spokesperson as the trip progresses.
