Former Anambra State Governor and Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has urged Nigerians to vote against political candidates who violate the peace accord ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Obi made the call while speaking at a conference organised by the Peter Obi Support Network (POSN) in Abuja, where he stressed the importance of peaceful and credible elections.
He said political leaders and candidates must demonstrate commitment to peace, democratic values and the rule of law throughout the electoral process.
According to Obi, Nigerians should pay close attention to the conduct of political actors before deciding who deserves their votes in 2027.
He maintained that signing an electoral peace accord should come with a genuine commitment to abide by its provisions, particularly those designed to prevent violence and protect the integrity of the electoral process.
The former presidential candidate also urged citizens to hold politicians accountable for their actions and ensure that electoral decisions are based on competence, integrity and a commitment to national development.
Obi’s comments come as political parties and potential presidential candidates intensify preparations for the 2027 general elections.
He further called on Nigerians to participate actively in the democratic process and resist actions capable of undermining peace and stability.
The former Anambra governor has repeatedly advocated for greater citizen participation, credible elections and leadership focused on improving the welfare of Nigerians.
His latest remarks are expected to add to the growing debate over how political parties and candidates should conduct themselves as the country approaches another general election.
With political activities already gathering momentum, stakeholders have continued to call for peaceful campaigns and respect for electoral rules.
Obi’s position is that voters should use their ballots to reward politicians who uphold democratic principles and reject those whose actions threaten peace during the electoral process.
