Bayelsa Group Raises Alarm Over Alleged Political Marginalisation of Bayelsa East, Yenagoa

The Bayelsa Rescue Movement has raised concerns over what it described as the political marginalisation of Bayelsa East Senatorial District and parts of Yenagoa Local Government Area.

The socio-political group, in a statement issued by its spokesman, Kalas Nimitenbofa, called on Governor Douye Diri to address what it described as an imbalance in the distribution of key government and political positions.

The group specifically cited Brass, Ogbia and Nembe Local Government Areas, which make up Bayelsa East, stressing their contributions to the economic, political and social development of the state.

It also argued that Yenagoa, as the state capital and administrative headquarters, deserves adequate representation in political decision-making.

The movement said its demand was not for political patronage but for fairness, equity, inclusion and a sense of belonging for residents across the state.

It further warned that concentrating major political responsibilities in particular senatorial districts could deepen feelings of exclusion and weaken public confidence in the state’s political system.

The group alleged that while the distribution of political appointments was more balanced during Governor Diri’s first tenure, the situation had become less balanced during his second term.

The Bayelsa Rescue Movement urged the state government to promote a more inclusive political arrangement that gives all parts of the state a sense of representation.
