President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has described the newly remodelled Abuja City Gate as a symbol of Nigeria’s identity, unity and national pride, saying the project reflects the country’s character and aspirations for growth and development.
Speaking during the commissioning of the landmark structure in Abuja, the President said the renovation goes beyond beautifying the nation’s capital, adding that it represents the resilience, creativity and progress of the Nigerian people. He noted that the City Gate serves as one of the first impressions for visitors entering the Federal Capital Territory and should project the country’s rich heritage and modern outlook.
Tinubu stated that investments in public infrastructure and urban renewal are essential to improving the image of the capital city while creating an environment that encourages tourism, economic activities and national unity. According to him, well-maintained public facilities contribute to the overall development of the country and inspire confidence among citizens and investors.

The President commended the Federal Capital Territory Administration (FCTA) and all stakeholders involved in the execution of the project, describing the successful remodelling as a demonstration of what can be achieved through dedication and effective planning. He urged residents to take ownership of public infrastructure by protecting and preserving national assets for future generations.
The Abuja City Gate, one of the most recognisable landmarks in Nigeria’s capital, welcomes visitors into the city and has long served as a symbol of the Federal Capital Territory. The remodelling included structural improvements, enhanced landscaping, upgraded lighting and other aesthetic features aimed at improving the appearance of the entrance to the city.
Tinubu reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to developing critical infrastructure across the country, noting that urban renewal projects remain a key component of the government’s Renewed Hope Agenda. He said efforts would continue to modernise roads, bridges, public buildings and other facilities that improve the quality of life for Nigerians.
Residents and visitors who witnessed the unveiling expressed appreciation for the improved appearance of the monument, with many describing it as a welcome development that enhances the beauty of Abuja. Some observers also noted that maintaining such public infrastructure would be essential to preserving its value and appeal over time.
Urban development experts have consistently emphasised that iconic monuments contribute to the cultural identity of cities while supporting tourism and investment. They argue that continuous maintenance and strategic planning are necessary to ensure such facilities remain functional and attractive.
The commissioning of the remodelled Abuja City Gate forms part of ongoing efforts by the Federal Government and the FCT Administration to upgrade public infrastructure and reinforce Abuja’s status as a modern capital city. As more urban renewal projects are completed, authorities say the focus will remain on creating a cleaner, safer and more welcoming environment for residents, businesses and visitors alike.
