The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has ratified its ward, local government, state, and zonal congresses, while also affirming a zoning formula for national elective positions, signaling its readiness for the forthcoming national convention and a renewed push for national leadership.
These resolutions were contained in a communiqué issued at the end of the party’s 107th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting held in Abuja on Monday. The caretaker leadership described the gathering as a pivotal moment marked by renewal, discipline, and unity.
The communiqué, signed by the Chairman of the National Caretaker Working Committee, Abdulrahman Mohammed, and the committee’s Secretary, Samuel Nnaemeka Anyanwu, noted NEC’s satisfaction with the conduct of congresses nationwide. The committee commended party leaders, electoral panels, stakeholders, and members for demonstrating commitment, discipline, and adherence to due process, which ensured peaceful, transparent, and credible exercises across the country.
NEC also reviewed the ongoing electronic membership registration exercise, reaffirming its commitment to building a comprehensive, credible, and technology-driven database. Members across the federation were encouraged to actively participate in the process.
On the issue of zoning, NEC formally endorsed the party’s zoning formula for national elective offices, stating that it aligns with the PDP’s core principles of equity, fairness, inclusiveness, and national balance. The arrangement, it said, will guide the upcoming national convention.
Speaking on the outcome of the meeting, Abdulrahman Mohammed described it as a significant milestone, emphasizing that the party has moved beyond recent legal and political challenges.
He noted that recent judicial developments, approached with a spirit of reconciliation and inclusiveness, have strengthened the party’s unity. According to him, there are no winners or losers—only a collective resolve to rebuild, reposition, and strengthen the PDP.
Mohammed also announced the commencement of the sale of nomination forms for the national convention, urging aspirants to adhere strictly to the approved guidelines and timelines.
The NEC further unveiled the theme for the convention as “A Convention of Inclusiveness, Unity and Renewal,” reiterating its commitment to delivering a credible, transparent, and successful exercise.
In its closing remarks, NEC reaffirmed the supremacy of the party and called on members to remain united and committed to its collective goals.
