Engr. Kingsley Okafor, the NDC leader in Delta North, has condemned an alleged attack on the party’s rally in Asaba, Delta State, on Saturday, November 7, 2026, describing the incident as a threat to democratic participation.
In a statement, Okafor alleged that political thugs sponsored by the All Progressives Congress (APC) attempted to disrupt the rally but were resisted by NDC youths, who reportedly chased the attackers away.
He said the incident raised concerns about the state of democracy in Nigeria, particularly the freedom of citizens to associate with and campaign for political parties of their choice without intimidation.
“Is democracy now becoming a privilege of the ruling party rather than a right of every Nigerian?” Okafor queried.
He stressed that political differences should not be settled through violence, intimidation or attempts to suppress opposition voices.
“Political differences must never be settled through violence, intimidation or suppression of opposition voices,” he said.
Okafor maintained that Nigeria belongs to all citizens, regardless of their political affiliations, and called for respect for democratic rights and peaceful political participation.
