Heavy Traffic Grips AYA–Mararaba Road After Work Hours

Severe Traffic Snarl Reported Along AYA–Mararaba Road After Work Hours

Commuters were left stranded on Monday evening following a major traffic jam along the AYA corridor linking Abuja to Mararaba in Nasarawa State after the close of work.

The gridlock, which reportedly lasted for over three hours, caused significant delays for workers and residents heading home from the Federal Capital Territory. Motorists described the situation as overwhelming, with vehicles trapped in long queues and little movement across the road.

The AYA–Mararaba route, a key passage for daily commuters between Abuja and neighbouring Nasarawa communities, witnessed heavy vehicular pressure as workers attempted to return home at the same time. Some passengers were forced to trek long distances, while commercial drivers struggled to find alternative routes.

Although the precise cause of the blockage was not officially confirmed, some road users attributed the situation to rainfall recorded earlier in the day, which may have worsened road conditions and slowed vehicular movement.

Many commuters expressed frustration over the prolonged delay, noting that the traffic disrupted personal plans and extended travel time far beyond the usual duration.

As of the time of this report, there was no official statement from traffic authorities, but movement along the corridor was gradually easing as the night progressed.
