Northern Politician Calls on Tinubu to Step Aside for 2027 Election

Hakeem Baba-Ahmed, a former spokesperson of the Northern Elders Forum and recent senior aide to the Vice President, has publicly advised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu not to seek re-election in 2027. Speaking during a televised interview, Baba-Ahmed argued that Nigeria needs a younger and more energetic leader to move the country forward.

Baba-Ahmed expressed dissatisfaction with the president’s leadership approach, stating that despite Tinubu’s reputation as a skilled political strategist, this has not been evident in his governance. He noted that after achieving his long-held presidential ambition with the “emi lokan” declaration, the president should now prioritize the nation’s interests.

The northern politician recommended that Tinubu should identify and support a successor from within the APC who is younger, healthier, and more focused. He emphasized that the ruling party has capable individuals who could take over leadership if the president facilitates the transition.

Baba-Ahmed also criticized the administration’s handling of national emergencies, stating that Nigeria’s situation has deteriorated significantly and requires more decisive leadership than what has been demonstrated.

These remarks have sparked renewed debate about the APC’s direction and northern political sentiment as the 2027 general elections approach.
