Umar Danjani, the Peoples Democratic Party’s (PDP) candidate for the Hadejia/Auyo/Kafin-Hausa Federal Constituency in the House of Representatives, has cautioned that Jigawa State could suffer the consequences of poor leadership for another four years if the party fails to win the 2027 elections.
Danjani, who previously served as the party’s state deputy chairman, made the prediction in a Hausa-language statement published on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
He argued that the PDP had assembled a team of contenders whose educational backgrounds, administrative experience and political records made them capable of steering the state towards progress.
According to him, losing the governorship race would not simply be a setback for the party but a loss for the entire state, with ordinary citizens bearing the burden of the outcome.
Danjani also spoke favourably of former governor Sule Lamido, crediting him with demonstrating a strong commitment to the welfare of Jigawa residents during his time in office.
He described Lamido as one of Northern Nigeria’s most dedicated political figures, arguing that his policies and leadership helped bring greater recognition to Jigawa within and outside the country.
The PDP candidate maintained that the former governor’s time in office left a legacy against which later administrations should be assessed.
Making a case for his party, Danjani listed several people within its ranks who, he said, had the capacity to run government affairs effectively. These included former state lawmakers, ex-commissioners and individuals with doctoral degrees.
He also drew attention to the campaign director-general’s professional history, which he said included work in business, political organising, the state legislature and the civil service, where he served as a permanent secretary.
Regarding the PDP’s governorship hopeful, Danjani cited his experience in traditional leadership and business, alongside three academic degrees in political studies. He presented him as a younger political figure capable of attracting support from different sections of the electorate.
He described the running mate as another experienced choice, pointing to a career in public administration that ended with his appointment as head of the state civil service.
Danjani similarly highlighted the record of Sulaiman Abba, the party’s candidate for the Jigawa South-West senatorial seat. He noted that Abba had served in the Nigeria Police Force and attained the rank of Inspector-General of Police.
The House of Representatives hopeful also drew attention to what he described as the PDP’s distinction in legislative experience. He claimed that the party was fielding three candidates who had each held the position of Speaker of the Jigawa State House of Assembly.
Reflecting on his own political career, Danjani said his years of involvement in party affairs and public service had prepared him for the legislative contest. He also mentioned his work towards securing the freedom of people he believed had suffered unjust imprisonment.
He added that his family background had exposed him to politics from an early stage, further shaping his ambition to represent the constituency.
Danjani concluded that the PDP’s return to power would give Jigawa an opportunity to change its direction and rebuild public confidence in its leadership.
He called on voters to look beyond party loyalty and examine the abilities, experience and past records of those seeking their mandate in 2027.
