The Adamawa State Police Command has stepped up security in Yola ahead of Vice President Kashim Shettima’s planned visit to the state to condole with the family of the late Bamanga Tukur.

As part of the security arrangements, armed anti-riot personnel and armoured vehicles have been positioned at key locations across the state capital.

The command’s spokesperson, SP Suleiman Nguroje, disclosed this in a statement issued on Thursday.

He said, “Ahead of the official visit of His Excellency, the Vice President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria to Adamawa State, the Adamawa State Police Command has deployed adequate security and placed watertight security measures across Yola and other strategic locations in the State.”

Nguroje said the security operation was ordered by the Commissioner of Police, Adamawa State Command, CP Kabir Hassan, who directed various units of the command to participate in the exercise.

Personnel drawn from the Police Mobile Force, Counter Terrorism Unit, Anti-Kidnapping Unit, Intelligence and Traffic units, as well as Divisional Police Officers, have been deployed to support the operation.

The police said motorists and other road users should expect diversions and stop-and-search checks within Yola and its environs during the visit.

Hassan urged residents to comply with instructions from security personnel and conduct themselves peacefully throughout the exercise.

He also warned individuals planning to cause trouble to stay away from locations associated with the Vice President’s visit, stressing that the police would take firm action against anyone attempting to disrupt the event or threaten public peace.

Residents were equally encouraged to stay alert and promptly report suspicious individuals, activities or movements to the nearest police station or through the command’s emergency contact lines.

The Commissioner of Police reaffirmed the command’s determination to safeguard lives and property across Adamawa State.
