Iran Confirms Pakistan Invites Top Officials for Talks Amid Regional Tensions

Iran has confirmed that Pakistan has invited its Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi and Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Qalibaf for official talks as Tehran and Islamabad seek to strengthen bilateral relations amid ongoing regional tensions.

Iranian Foreign Ministry spokesman Esmaeil Baqaei said Monday that the two officials would travel to Pakistan “at an appropriate time,” although no specific date has been announced.

Baqaei described reciprocal visits between the neighbouring countries as a natural part of their growing relationship.

The invitation comes against the backdrop of heightened tensions in the Middle East following US and Israeli military strikes against Iran in February. Tehran subsequently launched attacks against regional countries hosting American military assets, raising fears of a wider conflict.

Pakistan later stepped in to mediate between Iran and the United States, playing a role in efforts to reduce tensions. Islamabad helped broker a ceasefire in April and later secured a framework agreement in June aimed at preventing further escalation.

However, that framework collapsed last month after Iran and the United States exchanged attacks for nearly two weeks. The confrontation eventually ended after US President Donald Trump ordered a halt to the bombardment.

Reports of renewed diplomatic efforts emerged shortly after Washington suspended its military operations.

The planned visit by Araghchi and Qalibaf could therefore further strengthen Pakistan’s position as a regional mediator and provide another avenue for dialogue between Iran and Western powers.

For Tehran and Islamabad, the talks could also deepen their bilateral relationship while addressing wider security and diplomatic challenges facing the region.
