The spokesperson of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Police Command, SP Josephine Adeh, has come under criticism after sharing a throwback photograph with singer Peter Okoye, popularly known as Mr P, accompanied by the hashtag #IbelievePeter amid the ongoing public dispute involving the former Psquare members.
Adeh posted the 2016 photograph on her Facebook page on Tuesday, recalling that she met the singer at the Nigeria Police Force Headquarters in Abuja a decade ago. In the post, she described Peter as her “all-time favourite Mr Psquare” and ended the message with the hashtag #IbelievePeter.
The post attracted widespread attention because it coincided with a renewed public disagreement between Peter Okoye and his brothers, Paul Okoye (Rudeboy) and Jude Okoye, over issues relating to the management, ownership of assets, and affairs of the defunct Psquare group.
Many social media users interpreted the hashtag as a public endorsement of Peter’s position in the family dispute, questioning whether it was appropriate for a serving police officer to make such a statement while the matter remains contentious.
Critics argued that law enforcement officers are expected to maintain neutrality, particularly in disputes that could potentially require police involvement.
Reacting to the post, an Instagram user, @teejay_uzo, wrote:
“Putting this up at this time is very unprofessional as a police officer.”
Another user, @ifizkhid, questioned the basis of the support, writing:
“Do you believe him because you met him sometime ago? Naija I hail o.”
Similarly, @iam_authourity expressed concern over the perception of impartiality, stating:
“Imagine they now take this case to her. Are police officers even trained at all?”
While some users criticised the timing of the post, others defended Peter Okoye and expressed support for him. One commenter described him as “our African Michael Jackson,” while another noted that although many believe Peter’s account, the dispute remains a family matter and should be handled without taking sides publicly.
The renewed controversy follows Peter Okoye’s recent allegations against his elder brother, Jude Okoye, whom he accused of threatening him during a disagreement over a property in the United States. According to Peter, the confrontation stemmed from concerns over plans to sell the property and questions surrounding its ownership.
Jude Okoye has since responded briefly through his Instagram Story, declining to address the allegations directly and stating that he was leaving the matter in God’s hands.
The exchange marks the latest chapter in the long-running dispute involving the Okoye brothers, whose differences have repeatedly drawn public attention since the breakup of the Psquare music group.
