The spokesperson to Kano State Governor Abba Yusuf, Sanusi Bature, has claimed that former Kano State governor Rabiu Kwankwaso views former Anambra State governor Peter Obi as a “Biafra agent,” insisting that any proposed presidential alliance between both politicians would not succeed politically.
Bature made the remarks while reacting to growing speculations surrounding a possible political partnership between Kwankwaso and Obi ahead of the 2027 presidential election. According to him, many political observers in Kano are surprised by reports linking both politicians together because of their previously different political positions and ideologies.
He argued that the proposed alliance would struggle to gain acceptance in Kano State, adding that the political views and approaches of both men are too different to form a stable partnership. Bature also suggested that the relationship appears temporary and may not produce the desired political outcome ahead of the next general election.
The comments come amid increasing political discussions over possible opposition coalitions aimed at challenging the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in 2027. In recent months, several meetings and consultations involving opposition politicians have fueled rumours of strategic alliances and joint presidential tickets.
Kwankwaso and Obi were both presidential candidates in the 2023 general election and continue to maintain strong political support in different parts of the country. Political analysts believe that any alliance involving the two politicians would attract national attention because of their influence, especially among youths and opposition supporters.
However, observers also note that forming a broad political coalition in Nigeria often comes with challenges, including regional interests, leadership disagreements, and ideological differences. Similar coalition efforts in the past have faced internal conflicts that weakened their effectiveness during elections.
Despite the growing speculation, neither Kwankwaso nor Obi has officially confirmed details of any joint presidential arrangement for the 2027 election. Nonetheless, political consultations and alliance talks continue to dominate conversations across the country as preparations for the next election cycle gradually intensify.
