Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri recently engaged in discussions with leaders and key stakeholders of the All Progressives Congress (APC) in Adamawa State, emphasizing that his decision to join the party is motivated by strategic considerations rather than personal ambition. The governor described the move as a measure to enhance political stability and strengthen governance structures within the state, assuring members that it was not intended to undermine any existing leadership.

The meeting, held on Monday in Yola, brought together prominent party figures, grassroots leaders, and political influencers to discuss the implications of the defection and the path forward for APC in Adamawa. During his address, Governor Fintiri highlighted that the unification of political leaders and supporters under a single platform would consolidate the party’s influence in the state, paving the way for a decisive victory for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and APC candidates in upcoming elections.

Governor Fintiri acknowledged the support of President Tinubu and the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, in facilitating a smooth and orderly transition. He urged long-standing APC members to welcome newcomers with inclusiveness, stressing that his loyalty to the party and its leadership remains unwavering. He also reiterated his administration’s commitment to service delivery, citing international rankings that place Adamawa among the nation’s top-performing states. According to him, this achievement has been possible due to the consistent backing and cooperation of the people of Adamawa.

Framing his defection as a fresh political chapter for the state, Governor Fintiri emphasized that the decision was aimed at fostering peace, stability, and socio-economic development rather than advancing personal political ambitions. He called on former members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) to integrate with the APC responsibly, highlighting the importance of discipline, unity, and collective effort. He also encouraged the organization of grassroots meetings across the state to strengthen cohesion and consolidate the new political alignment.

Speaking at the gathering, the APC National Vice Chairman for the North-East, Comrade Mustafa Salihu, described the event as a major milestone for Adamawa’s political landscape and commended Governor Fintiri for bringing his support base into the party fold. The Minister of Livestock Development, Alhaji Idi Mukhtar, echoed this sentiment, expressing optimism that Adamawa is well-positioned to deliver significant victories for the APC in future polls. The State APC Chairman, Barrister Idris Shuaibu, also acknowledged the role of Governor Fintiri and Nuhu Ribadu in ensuring a seamless integration process and reaffirmed the party’s commitment to supporting the governor.

In his opening remarks, the Secretary to the State Government, Barrister Awwal Tukur, noted that the defection followed extensive consultations with citizens, who continue to regard Governor Fintiri as a trusted leader. In addition, former PDP State Chairman, Alhaji Hamza Bello Madagali, announced that the party’s entire state structure, including executives at the ward level, has now been fully merged into the APC, marking the completion of a significant political realignment in Adamawa.

This strategic move, Governor Fintiri stressed, is intended to foster political unity, enhance governance, and deliver electoral success for the APC in the 2027 general elections.
