Lai Mohammed: Obi Wouldn’t Have Won With 10 Million Votes

Former Minister of Information and Culture Lai Mohammed has stated that Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi would not have won the 2023 presidential election even if he had secured 10 million votes, due to constitutional requirements.

Speaking on broadcaster Edmund Obilo’s podcast ‘State Affairs’, Mohammed explained that Obi failed to meet the constitutional requirement of securing one-quarter of votes in at least 25 states. The former minister also claimed that Obi could not provide agents at about 40,000 polling units.

Mohammed noted that ethnicity and religion played an unusually prominent role in the 2023 presidential election, particularly in Lagos State.

Regarding President Bola Tinubu’s leadership, Mohammed stated that Tinubu does not abandon political allies after electoral defeats and described him as strategic with a deep understanding of Nigerian politics.

This statement appears to be part of ongoing commentary about the controversial 2023 presidential election won by Tinubu, which Obi and the Labour Party contested in court.
