No fewer than 1,000 members of the New Nigeria People’s Party (NNPP) and the Kwankwasiyya Movement have defected to the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) in Kano State.
The mass defection was announced in a statement issued on Sunday by Ismail Mudashir, Special Adviser on Media and Publicity to the Deputy President of the Senate, Senator Barau I. Jibrin.
According to the statement, the defectors converged at the Fine Time Events Centre in Kano, where they were formally received into the APC fold.
The defectors said their decision to join the APC was motivated by the “numerous interventions and people-oriented initiatives” of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Senator Barau Jibrin in Kano and across the country.
Leader of the defectors, Aminu Minjibir, explained that they had been active contributors to the growth of the Kwankwasiyya Movement but became disillusioned with the NNPP’s performance in government.
“We worked hard for the success of the movement, but the NNPP has failed to deliver meaningful change to the people of Kano. We believe the APC offers a better platform to serve our people,” Minjibir said.
In his remarks, Senator Jibrin welcomed the new members, describing their decision as “wise and forward-looking.”
He emphasized that the APC remains the largest political party in Africa and continues to prioritize the welfare of Nigerians through sound policies and inclusive governance.
“The APC is focused on progress, development, and service to the people. I urge others who truly care about the growth of Kano and Nigeria to join us,” he added.
The event was attended by several APC stalwarts and supporters who described the development as a major boost for the party’s strength ahead of future elections in the state.
