The Chairman of Orumba South Local Government Area in Anambra State, Hon. Shedrack Azubuike, on Wednesday halted a political rally organized by the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Prince Nicholas Ukachukwu.
The rally was reportedly stopped for violating existing regulations that prohibit the use of public or private school premises for political or social activities during school hours.
According to eyewitnesses, members of Ukachukwu’s campaign team had begun setting up canopies at St. Augustine Primary School, Umunze, when the council chairman arrived at the venue and ordered the event to be suspended. He cited the absence of official clearance from the Local Government Authority and a breach of the state’s directive on the use of school premises.
Hon. Azubuike explained that the decision was in line with a circular issued by the Anambra State Ministry of Education on August 14, 2025, which restricts political, religious, and social gatherings in both public and private schools during school hours.
He stated, “The noise and disruptions from such events interfere with teaching and learning. This enforcement is not targeted at any group but is aimed at maintaining peace, order, and public safety in accordance with our council’s regulations. Any group or individual wishing to use a school facility must obtain written clearance in advance.”
The chairman also warned that school heads and proprietors who fail to comply with the directive would face administrative or legal sanctions. He reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that all public events in Orumba South adhere to established safety and administrative standards.
