The Katsina State Police Command has arrested an eleven-man syndicate of suspected notorious armed robbers who have been terrorizing commuters along the Sha’iskawa Charanchi and Katsina Kankia Kano roads.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Abubakar Aliyu, briefed journalists on Wednesday in Katsina, stating that the suspects had been blocking roads and robbing unsuspecting motorists.
He identified the suspects as Dikko Maaru, Dardau Kabir, Muntari Musa, Labaran Amadu, Usman Maaru, Lawal Zubairu, Nasiru Sanusi, and Adamu Kabir. Others include Abdullahi Zubairu, Muhammad Usman, and Sale Shehu, all aged between 21 and 35.
Aliyu said, “The breakthrough came on Sunday around 10 in the morning when one member of the syndicate was intercepted while trying to dispose of some items believed to be proceeds from their criminal activities. This followed a credible intelligence report.”
He added that acting swiftly on the tipoff, police operatives tracked and arrested the suspect, which led to the arrest of the other members of the group.
During the investigation, police recovered 80 wristwatches, nine cell phones, and a knife as exhibits.
The Public Relations Officer further disclosed that the Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr. Bello Shehu, commended the operatives for their efforts and expressed appreciation to the public for their support.
Aliyu quoted the Commissioner as urging residents to continue sharing useful information that could help in the fight against crime in the state.
He confirmed that the suspects will be charged in court once investigations are concluded.
