The Cross River State Government has suspended the Provost of the College of Education, Akamkpa, Dr. James Etim Archibong, over allegations of maladministration and gross misconduct.
In a statement on Tuesday, the Commissioner for Education, said the decision followed several petitions and preliminary findings against the provost. He added that the move was to allow for an impartial investigation.
The commissioner explained that the allegations include abuse of office, financial mismanagement, and administrative irregularities. He stressed that the government is committed to transparency and accountability in managing public institutions.
An interim management committee has been appointed to oversee the college’s affairs during the investigation. The government assured that academic activities would continue without disruption.
Efforts to reach the suspended provost were unsuccessful, but a close aide described the allegations as politically motivated. The state government, however, vowed to make the panel’s findings public and take appropriate action.
