A former member of the House of Representatives, Hon. Bimbo Daramola, has unveiled a Special Health Scheme designed to complement the administration of Ekiti State Governor, Biodun Oyebanji, through his flagship fitness and wellness programme, the BAOWALK Initiative.
The unveiling ceremony, held in Ado-Ekiti, saw the inauguration of hundreds of BAOWALK ambassadors drawn from all 16 local government areas of the state. Each ambassador received a Health and Fitness Card, which offers access to medical and wellness benefits for themselves and their referrals under the new scheme.
Speaking at the event, Ekiti APC Chairman, Barrister Sola Eleshin, praised Daramola for initiating a “timely and people-oriented project” that aligns with Governor Oyebanji’s ongoing efforts to improve healthcare delivery in the state.
“If we say we are in government and our people are not healthy, they will not even appreciate what we are doing,” Eleshin said.
“Honourable Bimbo Daramola deserves commendation for this human-centered initiative. By promoting fitness and wellness, he’s helping our people live better and contribute meaningfully to society.”
Eleshin urged the newly inaugurated ambassadors to take ownership of the project in their communities, emphasizing that the initiative would reduce medical expenses and enhance overall well-being across the state.
In his remarks, Daramola, who represented Ekiti North Federal Constituency I in the 7th National Assembly, said the programme was created to ensure the sustainability of the BAOWALK Health Initiative, which has already covered eight local government areas.
“Many people asked what happens after we leave a community. Even Governor Oyebanji raised that concern,” Daramola explained.
“We felt it was necessary to build a system that ensures continuity. That’s why we created this network of ambassadors local champions who will keep promoting healthy lifestyles in their communities.”
He further explained that the Health and Fitness Card offers access to a variety of medical services, including health consultations and support for managing chronic illnesses.
“The card brings together multiple opportunities for those committed to the BAOWALK cause,” he said.
“But access to these benefits comes through participation you must be a BAOWALKER to enjoy them. It’s about taking responsibility for your health and being part of a community that values wellness.”
The BAOWALK Initiative, introduced under Governor Oyebanji’s administration, promotes fitness, preventive healthcare, and community participation — values now strengthened by Daramola’s new health support scheme as Ekiti moves closer to the 2026 governorship race
