Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has dissolved the expanded State Executive Council (SEC) following his reinstatement after a six-month suspension by President Bola Tinubu.
In a statement issued by his Chief Press Secretary, Nelson Chukwudi, the governor said the dissolution takes immediate effect, affecting commissioners, special advisers, and other public officers impacted by the recent Supreme Court judgment. These officials had served under Fubara before the declaration of emergency rule on March 18, which forced them out of office.
Highlighting the importance of Nigeria’s Independence, Fubara urged citizens to join hands with President Tinubu in building a peaceful, secure, and prosperous nation. He also pledged to serve Rivers State with renewed vigour, thanked residents for their support, and wished Nigerians a happy Independence anniversary.
“The governor has relieved all commissioners and other public officers affected by the recent Supreme Court judgment of their appointments with immediate effect,” Chukwudi stated.
It would be recalled that the immediate past sole administrator of the state, Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas (rtd), upon assumption of office, had suspended all commissioners, special advisers, and assistants, while also dissolving boards and suspending heads of parastatals.
Political observers had anticipated that Fubara might retain some high-performing cabinet members, while others speculated that the influence of the Minister of Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike who played a key role in Fubara’s return could shape the formation of the new cabinet.
During a valedictory session in Port Harcourt on Tuesday, the governor expressed gratitude to the outgoing cabinet members for their service and contributions to the development of Rivers State over the past two years.
