The Interim National Publicity Secretary of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), Mallam Bolaji Abdullahi, has called on Nigerians to rally behind the party ahead of the 2027 general elections, promising a drastic reduction in fuel prices and an end to the growing hunger crisis in the country.
Speaking with journalists in Ilorin on Monday, Abdullahi—who is a former Minister of Youth and Sports Development—said the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC) has lost the trust of the people due to what he described as “catastrophic policies” that have worsened the economic hardship in Nigeria.
“The most important thing is that our job is half done because Nigerians are already feeling the hunger,” he said. “The real task is convincing them that we, the ADC, are the true alternative. Any Nigerian suffering today knows that they don’t want the APC anymore. The vulcanizer who can’t afford fuel, the parent who can no longer feed their child with ₦5,000 they all know who’s responsible for their pain.”
Abdullahi accused the ruling party of deliberately weakening opposition parties that posed a threat to their hold on power.
“Nigerians want a new political direction, and they know the APC has failed them. That’s why they’ve worked to scatter credible opposition parties like the PDP, LP, SDP, and others. This manipulation and suppression gave rise to a new political movement one that brought credible figures together to form the ADC,” he stated.
Highlighting the ADC’s vision, Abdullahi assured that, if elected in 2027, the party’s first priority would be to tackle hunger and reduce the cost of petroleum products, which he noted is crippling small businesses and daily survival.
“I have experienced hunger before I know what it feels like. That’s why our first focus will be food security. Second, we’ll bring down fuel prices, because people can’t even do business with the current rates. Third, we will confront insecurity head-on.”
He lamented the growing insecurity in Kwara State, noting that once peaceful areas like Patigi, Ifelodun, and Babanla are now plagued by kidnappers and bandits. “I own a farm in that axis, and I can’t even visit it anymore because it’s not safe,” he added.
Abdullahi expressed confidence in the strength and diversity of the ADC, which he said includes former members of other major political parties like the PDP, LP, NNPP, and SDP. He described the coalition as a focused and determined group committed to restoring peace, economic stability, and dignity to Nigerians.
“Our goal is to bring comfort, safety, and a renewed hope for the future. That’s the ADC’s mission,” he said.
