The All Progressives Congress (APC) is currently in the lead as sorting and result announcements continue across the 57 local government areas and local council development areas (LCDAs) in Lagos State. The local government polls, which officially ended at 3 p.m., were marked by a generally low voter turnout.
Speaking to journalists after casting his vote at his polling unit in the Adeniji-Adele area, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu acknowledged delays experienced earlier in the day, attributing them to logistical issues.
By 4 p.m., early results indicated APC dominance in several areas, including Adeniji-Adele—where the governor voted as well as polling units in Yaba, Somolu, Bariga, Ikeja, and Agege. In these locations, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) trailed behind, with the Labour Party (LP) coming in third.
APC Chairmanship candidate for Yaba LCDA, Adebayo Adefuye, described the election as peaceful, free, and fair. Speaking shortly after voting, he praised the conduct of the exercise, calling it one of the most important in the democratic process due to its direct connection with grassroots governance.
Adefuye also unveiled his vision plan titled “Yaba tuntun” which translates to “New Yaba” a reform-oriented agenda aimed at correcting past administrative lapses and providing a fresh start for the community.
Commenting on the Federal Government’s enforcement of financial autonomy for local governments, Adefuye expressed strong support, commending President Bola Tinubu for driving the long-awaited reform.
