Signature Bank Limited has announced the appointment of Mr. Nixon Iwedi as its new Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer.
According to a press statement released on Sunday, the bank revealed that the appointment—officially approved by the Central Bank of Nigeria—represents a significant milestone in the institution’s ongoing journey of transformation and strategic expansion.
Prior to assuming this role, Iwedi served as the founding Executive Director and Executive Compliance Officer at Globus Bank Limited. He joins Signature Bank with extensive expertise expected to enhance the bank’s executive leadership as it seeks to cement its standing in Nigeria’s highly competitive financial services landscape.
With more than 28 years in the banking industry, Iwedi has accumulated deep knowledge across various areas, including retail and corporate banking, global financial services, and regulatory compliance.

Iwedi began his career in banking in 1997 at Guaranty Trust Bank before making a move to Access Bank Plc in 2002. During his tenure at Access Bank, he held several key roles, such as Group Head for Global Transaction Banking, Group Head for Large Conglomerates, and Zonal Head of Commercial Banking in the Port Harcourt region.
In 2009, he gained valuable international banking experience when he was assigned to the Netherlands Development Finance Company in The Hague, where he served as Senior Investment Officer, focusing on deal structuring, project origination, and credit risk evaluation.
Academically, Iwedi holds a B.Sc. in Chemistry from the University of Port Harcourt, and he earned his MBA from both Bangor University in the United Kingdom and Rivers State University of Science and Technology. He furthered his education at globally recognized institutions including INSEAD (France) and IMD (Switzerland). He holds memberships in the Chartered Institute of Bankers of Nigeria, as well as the Chartered Banker Institutes of Scotland and Wales. In addition, he is a Fellow of the National Institute of Credit Administration.
