The Nigerian government has announced its full backing for the upcoming Nigeria-Indonesian Investment and Trade Forum 2025, aimed at enhancing economic collaboration and drawing in international investors.
During a press briefing held on Friday in Lagos, Mr. Ishmael Balogun, who leads the Nigerian-Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NICCI), shared the update on the government’s support for the forum.
He stated that Vice President Kashim Shettima’s office, in partnership with several important ministries and national agencies, had pledged to advance commercial ties between Nigeria and Indonesia.
Balogun also revealed that the Vice President had given instructions to the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) to coordinate the engagement of relevant ministries, departments, and government agencies.
These institutions include the federal ministries responsible for trade and industry, agriculture, and health, as well as major bodies such as the Nigerian Investment Promotion Commission (NIPC), the Nigerian Export Promotion Council (NEPC), and others with a focus on trade development.
Balogun further mentioned that the 40th edition of the Indonesian Trade Expo would take place in Jakarta from October 15 to 19, with the Nigeria-Indonesian Investment and Trade Forum following closely from October 21 to 23, also in the Indonesian capital.
At present, trade relations between Nigeria and Indonesia span a wide range of industries, including petroleum, manufacturing, consumer goods, agriculture, healthcare products, and electronics.
According to official data, the total value of trade between the two countries was $4.7 billion in 2023, with expectations to hit $5 billion by the end of 2024.
Balogun emphasized the importance of strengthening commercial cooperation and scaling up trade exchanges to reinforce the strong diplomatic and economic bond both nations enjoy.
To further attract Asian investors and traders to the Nigerian market, NICCI has simplified processes for obtaining visas, securing accommodation, and exploring tourism opportunities for participants.
He concluded by inviting interested stakeholders to get more information via the official websites: www.nigerianindonesianchamber.com and www.niitf.org.
