Former Imo State Governor and ex-Senator representing Imo West, Rochas Okorocha, has dismissed rumors suggesting he intends to leave the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement released on Tuesday by his media aide, Sam Onwuemeodo, Okorocha described the claims circulating online as fabricated lies pushed by his political adversaries.
He also refuted a viral quote attributed to him, which described the APC as “a party desperate to hijack power.” According to Okorocha, the statement is false and inconsistent with his position as one of the party’s founding members.
“Okorocha would never describe a party that has been in power since 2015 as ‘desperate to hijack power.’ What power again?” the statement read.
Reaffirming his loyalty, the former senator said he remains a dedicated member of the APC and would never express dissatisfaction with the party through social media.
He added, “Almost eight years after leaving office, those with an irrational fear of Rochas Okorocha still cannot sleep with their eyes closed. These fabricated stories only prove how much attention I still command.”
Okorocha recalled that he was the only sitting governor from the South-East who joined the APC during its formative stage, risking his political future in 2015 when the party had minimal regional support.
“Despite ridicule and skepticism, I remained committed to the APC. My dedication was recognized when fellow governors unanimously chose me as the first Chairman of the Progressive Governors Forum, a body I helped establish as a political force,” the statement emphasized.
