Port Harcourt Refinery Marks 180 Days of Continuous Operation – PETROAN

PETROAN commended the Federal Government and NNPC Ltd. for reportedly keeping the revamped Port Harcourt refinery running non-stop for 180 days.

After over 20 years of dormancy, the refinery was revamped with a loan from Afreximbank and executed by Tecnimont Nigeria Limited, a subsidiary of the Maire Tecnimont Group.

The refinery was relaunched for operations in November 2024.

PETROAN’s Publicity Secretary, Joseph Obele, commended Tecnimont Nigeria Limited for its professionalism and expertise in delivering a top-tier rehabilitation project.

The association also lauded the host communities for their cooperation and support during the refinery’s rehabilitation.

PETROAN stated that the refinery, commissioned in October 2024, has operated non-stop for 180 days until March, marking a significant milestone in its successful rehabilitation.

The association stated that its members are loading diesel and kerosene from the refinery, while NNPCL retail marketers are loading PMS. This, it noted, has ensured a stable petroleum supply and reduced the circulation of counterfeit kerosene and diesel in the market.

PETROAN commended the Managing Director of the Port Harcourt Refining Company, Ibrahim Onoja, for his commitment to the successful rehabilitation and operation of the refinery.

The association specially acknowledged President Bola Tinubu for funding the refinery’s rehabilitation; the Minister of State for Petroleum Resources (Oil), Senator Heineken Lokpobiri, for his oversight and guidance; NNPCL’s Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari, for his leadership and commitment; and the Managing Director of NNPC Retail Ltd, Hubb Stockman, for successfully marketing the refinery’s products.

PETROAN also recognized the Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority for its regulatory oversight and support in maintaining the refinery’s safe and efficient operation.
