A Nigerian Navy officer, Lt. Cynthia Akor, attached to the Defence Headquarters, was abducted along with two others by armed assailants in Abuja. The victims were taken from their home in the Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory on Friday night.
A source, who requested anonymity, revealed that the kidnappers contacted the families of the victims on Saturday, demanding a ransom of N100 million for their release.
“Three people, including Lt. Akor, a Defence Headquarters officer, were abducted from Mpape on Friday night. The kidnappers have made contact with the families, insisting on a N100 million ransom,” the source said.
Efforts to reach the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, and the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, for comments were unsuccessful as they had not responded to messages at the time of reporting.
When contacted, Josephine Adeh, the spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, confirmed she would investigate the incident and provide further information. “I will verify the details and get back to you shortly,” she said.
This abduction has raised alarm over the deteriorating security situation in the nation’s capital, with increasing reports of kidnappings and violent crimes.
