Gunmen have abducted a Nigerian Navy officer, Lt. Cynthia Akor, attached to the Defence Headquarters (DHQ), along with two others in Abuja. The incident occurred on Friday night at the victims’ residence in the Mpape area of the Federal Capital Territory.

A source revealed that the kidnappers have contacted the families of the hostages, demanding a ransom of N100 million for their release. The source, who chose to remain anonymous for security reasons, confirmed that one of the abducted individuals is a DHQ official.

Furthermore, The kidnappers have already reached out to the families of the victims, demanding the ransom. Efforts to reach the Director of Defence Media Operations, Maj. Gen. Markus Kangye, and the Director of Defence Information, Brig. Gen. Tukur Gusau, were unsuccessful.

The spokesperson for the Federal Capital Territory Police Command, Josephine Adeh, promised to confirm the incident and provide further details. However, she had not reverted with any updates at the time of filing the report.

This incident raises concerns about the growing insecurity in the country, particularly in the capital city. The demand for a hefty ransom also highlights the economic motivations behind such kidnappings. The authorities must take swift action to rescue the abducted individuals and bring the perpetrators to justice.
