Abducted Benue Varsity Students Regain Freedom

Three female students abducted from Joseph Sarwuan Tarka University of Agriculture, Makurdi, have been released, according to the Benue State Police Command. The students were kidnapped on February 25, 2025, while returning from a night study session on campus.

Following their abduction, the university management ordered a one-week mid-semester break to address security challenges. The National Association of Nigerian Students and the Minister of Women Affairs, Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, had called for intensified efforts to secure their release.

The Minister of Women Affairs strongly condemned the kidnapping, calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the students. She emphasized the traumatic impact of the abduction on the students, their families, and the university community. The registrar, John David issued an internal memo a day after theAbduction titled “Security situation on Campus.

Details of the students’ release have not been disclosed. However, the police confirmation brings relief to the families and friends of the abducted students. The incident highlights the ongoing security challenges faced by educational institutions in Nigeria.
