At least seven traders were reported dead following an armed robbery that took place on Monday at Ngalda Market in the Fika Local Government Area of Yobe State. According to the police, three of the assailants were killed by the traders, and a key suspect in the robbery has been apprehended.

Police spokesperson Dungus Abdulkarim stated that the traders fought back against the attackers, organized themselves, and managed to kill three of them. The group of six armed robbers, led by Datti Alhaji-Dadji from Ngalda town, targeted three shops within the market.

The incident resulted in seven deaths and eleven injuries, with the robbers escaping with around sixteen million five hundred thousand naira. In response, the residents of Ngalda Town rallied together and killed three of the robbers, while the remaining three fled with injuries.

The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) led a team of patrol officers to Alhaji Dadji’s residence, where they seized a locally made pistol along with three cartridges. Alhaji Dadji has been arrested and is currently being interrogated as the investigation continues, according to the police spokesperson.

The victims and deceased have been transported to the General Hospital Fika for medical treatment and autopsy. The Commissioner of Police, CP Garba Ahmed, has ordered an immediate investigation into the matter and urged for calm. He instructed personnel to apprehend any remaining members of the syndicate and called on the public to provide credible information to assist the command. The Command extends its condolences to the families of the victims and assures that the perpetrators will face the full force of the law,” Mr. Abdulkarim stated.
