Nigerian-American Afrobeats star, Davido, has sparked different reactions online after announcing that he voted in the US presidential election.
Davido took to social media to share a picture of himself holding a sticker with the writeup “I voted” , revealing that this was his first time exercising his civil right.
A lot of fans quickly pointed out the hypocrisy, criticizing Davido for not being equally vocal during the Nigerian presidential elections in 2023. He was accused of seeking validation from Americans while neglecting his home country.
Social media personality Daniel Regha also criticized Davido saying, “Davido, where was this energy during the Nigerian general election? You didn’t show proof of vote, didn’t show support to voters, or even bother to use your platform to call on the INEC when there were reports of electoral malpractices across the country.”
Davido’s actions have sparked debate about his responsibilities as a Nigerian celebrity and his involvement in the country’s politics.
