Courage Ikpaka has been sentenced to two years in prison with an option of a fine of N2 million for impersonating popular singer Flavour N’abania and scamming a US citizen, Mrs. Yvelte M. Thompson, of $53,000.
Ikpaka was convicted by Justice Dehinde Dipeolu of the Federal High Court on Tuesday, September 3, after he pleaded guilty to a two-count charge brought against him by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).
During the trial, a witness revealed that Ikpaka impersonated Flavour by promising to hold shows in the US and receiving payment via Bitcoin wallets. The agency invited Flavour for questioning during the investigation, and he denied any involvement in the scam.
The sum of N7.9 million which was recovered from him was also forfeited to the victim, Mrs. Thompson.
The sentence sparked different reactions on social media, with some users stating that it was too lenient.
