A 36-year-old woman, identified as Abiola, lost her life during a buttocks enlargement procedure at a clinic in Lekki-Phase 1, Lagos State. The incident occurred on Monday at around 3 pm.
According to reports, Abiola had undergone a Brazilian Butt Lift, a cosmetic surgery involving fat transfer from other body parts to the buttocks. However, shortly after receiving an injection, she lost consciousness and began gasping for breath. Despite being rushed to a nearby hospital, she was pronounced dead.
The Lagos State Police Command has confirmed the incident, with spokesperson SP Benjamin Hundeyin stating that a suspect linked to the crime was arrested on Tuesday. The nurse who administered the injection has been taken into custody, and an investigation is ongoing.He revealed that the driver of the deceased reported the incident.
He said, “Upon their arrival, the clinic owner directed a nurse to administer the injection on Abiola. Moments later, chaos ensued as the woman lost consciousness and started gasping for breath.
“Desperate for help, the driver rushed Abiola to another hospital in Lekki Phase 1 but she was confirmed dead by the staff on duty upon arrival.
“Detectives from the command had visited the scene, gathered evidence, inspected and photographed the woman’s remains, and subsequently transported the corpse to a morgue for autopsy.”
“The nurse has been taken into custody while an investigation into the incident continues.”
This tragic event highlights the risks associated with cosmetic procedures and the importance of ensuring that medical facilities and practitioners are properly qualified and equipped to perform such surgeries.
