The Minister of Education, Prof. Tahir Mamman, announced on Thursday that a new curriculum for secondary schools nationwide will be launched by September 2024. He disclosed this during the ongoing 2024 Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board policy meeting in Abuja.

“We are making concerted efforts to introduce a new curriculum for secondary schools by September,” Mamman stated.

He mentioned that preparations for this initiative have been ongoing for the past year, with a stakeholders’ meeting scheduled for August 6, 2024, to further deliberate on the matter.

“It is our plan that by September, this program will be implemented in all schools, both public and private,” affirmed the minister.

The National Senior Secondary School Education Commission has recently highlighted the dire state of senior secondary schools across the nation and urged collaborative efforts to address various challenges facing the sector. These challenges include infrastructural deficiencies, inadequately qualified teachers, outdated curriculum, and poorly equipped libraries and laboratories.

Additionally, plans are underway to introduce a new curriculum, with further details to be provided later.
