Lieutenant General Taoreed Lagbaja, the Chief of Army Staff, has directed the promotion of Second Lieutenant Oluchukwu Owowoh to the rank of Lieutenant in the Nigerian Army. This announcement was made by the Nigerian Defence Academy in a statement on X.com last Wednesday.

The NDA’s statement on Wednesday included, “During the decoration ceremony today, June 26, 2024, at the Nigerian Defence Academy Officer’s Mess and Golf Club, Major General JO Ochai, the NDA Commandant, praised Lt. Owowoh’s outstanding cadet performance. This recognition led to her distinction as the first female Nigerian to undergo training at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst and her subsequent promotion to the new rank.”

“The event was attended by senior military officers, academic and non-academic staff, and family members, among others.”

According to PUNCH Online’s report in April, Owowoh, who is 24 years old, created history by becoming the first Nigerian female officer to complete her training at the Royal Military Academy, Sandhurst, in the United Kingdom.
