On Friday, President Bola Tinubu would leave the capital city of Abuja for Lagos State in advance of the Eid-el-Kabir celebration.
According to a statement released on Friday by his spokesperson, Ajuri Ngelale, Tinubu would spend the Sallah vacations and celebrate Eid-el-Kabir in Lagos.
“The President will commemorate the occasion with prayers and reflection on advancing Nigeria’s transformation in line with his Renewed Hope Agenda,” the statement continued.
According to PUNCH online, Sa’ad Abubakar, the Sultan of Sokoto, proclaimed Sunday, June 16, to be Eid-el-Kabir day after reiterating that Friday is Dhul Hijjah’s first day.
This was revealed by the Sultan in a statement made on Friday to the Sultanate Council in Sokoto State by Sambo Junaid, the Chairman of the Advisory Committee on Religious Affairs.
“His Eminence, the Sultan felicitates with Nigeria’s Muslim Ummah and wishes them Allah’s guidance and blessings.
“The Sultan, while urging the Muslim Ummah to continue to pray for peace, progress and development of the country, also wishes all Muslims a Happy Eid-El-Kabir. May Allah (SWT) accept our religious deeds, amen,” the Sultanate council said in the statement.
The crescent of Dhul Hijjah, which marks the start of the 12th Islamic month, was sighted, according to an announcement made earlier by Saudi Arabia.
The Supreme Court of Saudi Arabia confirmed that the holy month officially began on Friday. Additionally, on Friday, June 14, the Hajj pilgrimage for 1445 AH-2024 will begin.
On Saturday, June 15, the day of Arafah will fall. As a result of the event, Sunday, June 16, 2024 will see the observance of Eid Al-Adha, the largest celebration for Muslims. June 15th is Arafat Day, the day before the festivities.
