Army Investigates Personnel Role in Abia Hotel Manager’s Death

Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has instructed a thorough investigation into the tragic death of a hotel manager, Achimugu Etubi, in Abia State.

The Chief of Army Staff, Lt. Gen. Taoreed Lagbaja, has instructed a thorough investigation into the tragic death of a hotel manager, Achimugu Etubi, in Abia State. It is alleged that some members of the Nigerian Army subjected Etubi to severe torture, resulting in his demise, following the reported drowning of a Nigerian Air Force cadet, Emmanuel Onyemereche, in the hotel’s swimming pool.

According to a statement from Director, Army Public Relations, Maj. Gen. Onyema Nwachukwu, the Army is deeply concerned about the accusations against its personnel, prompting the Chief of (Army Staff) to order a comprehensive inquiry into the incident to ascertain the circumstances surrounding Etubi’s death.

The Nigerian Army expressed its condolences to the families of the deceased and assured them that justice would be served. Maj. Gen. Onyema reiterated the Army’s commitment to upholding professionalism and discipline, stating that any personnel found guilty of misconduct would face appropriate legal consequences. The Army emphasized its dedication to uncovering the truth and ensuring justice, promising to keep the public informed about the progress of the investigation.
