In a devastating turn of events, the University of Maiduguri community is grieving the loss of a highly esteemed lecturer identified as Dr. Abdulkadir Kamar, a lecturer in the Department of Physical and Health Education at the University of Maiduguri. The news of his sudden passing has sent shockwaves through the campus, leaving students and staff in a state of profound sadness.
Dr Abdulkadir Kamar’s lifeless body was found in his university office, with some injuries pointing that he was murdered. He was stabbed several times and hit with a hammer on his head and spinal cord. His murderer/murderers charted away with his car. Friends and family believe that his murder is associated with the post he held in the department. Dr Abdulkadir Kamar was the Examination officer until he was murdered.
The Borno State Police command says 8 persons had been arrested in relation to the murder of the late Dr Abdulkadir Kamar. And investigations are ongoing.
The University’s Director of Radio and Public Relations, Professor Danjuma Gambo, confirmed the unfortunate incident in a late Monday press release. Professor Danjuma Gambo noted that “the attention of Management of the University of Maiduguri has been drawn to numerous reports, rumors and misrepresentations, especially on the social media, regarding the recent, painful demise of Dr. Abdulkadir Kamar, a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Physical and Health Education”.
Professor Danjuma Gambo further said “We wish to clarify that on Monday, 1 April 2024, Management received a report that his lifeless body was sighted in his office, following an alarm raised by members of his family. The police and other security agencies have already launched an investigation to unravel the circumstances surrounding his death.
Given the gravity of the matter, Management advises all staff and students to remain calm and go about their normal, legitimate businesses, as the University works closely with relevant security agencies to get to the root of the matter”.
In conclusion, he said “Management also wishes to assure parents, guardians, and other stakeholders that the University campus remains safe and secure for teaching, learning, and community service. Management appreciates the numerous messages of sympathy and support from all its stakeholders in this moment of grief”.
