Following his arrest on Wednesday, at the Pinnock Estate in Lagos State, Nigerian cross-dresser and social media influencer Idris Olanrewaju Okuneye AKA Bobrisky, has been convicted by Justice Abimbola Awogboro of the Federal High Court, Ikeja after he pleaded guilty to abuse of the naira.

During the arrest, Bobrisky was charged with allegedly spraying the Naira, currency mutilation, and abuse of the Naira. Bobrisky was seen in a popular video spraying and trampling on the naira note while musicians were praising him.

Prior to his arraignment, the EFCC filed six counts of crime against Bobrisky on Thursday while counts bordering on money laundering and abuse of the naira.

Bobrisky was remorseful of his actions and he told the court that he was not aware of the law on abusing the naira. He was pleased to be given a second chance to educate his over five million followers on social media. The judge further explained to him that ignorance of the law is not an excuse.

In response to the judge, Bobrisky said, “I know, My Lord. My Lord, I wish that you could give me a second chance to use my platform to inform and educate my followers about spraying money, I will do a video on my page and I will educate people about spraying money, I will not repeat it. I regret my actions”.

Bobrisky was arrested by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) on Wednesday 3rd April 2024 and has since then been in custody. He was arrested for naira violation and he has been charged with money laundering and Naira Abuse.
