Presidency Criticises Obi Supporters Over Alleged False Claims

The Presidency has accused supporters of Peter Obi of shielding the former Anambra State governor from accountability by accepting claims it considers false or misleading.

The allegation was made amid an escalating political dispute over statements attributed to Obi and reactions from his supporters ahead of the 2027 general elections.

The Presidency argued that some of Obi’s followers readily defend his public statements, regardless of questions surrounding their accuracy. It suggested that such reactions have contributed to what it described as a permissive environment for misinformation.

The development comes as political activities intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, with Obi and other opposition figures increasingly featuring in national political debates.

The former Labour Party presidential candidate recently moved to the African Democratic Congress (ADC), where he is part of a broader opposition political arrangement.

The latest criticism from the Presidency adds to the growing exchanges between supporters of President Bola Tinubu and Obi as political alignments take shape ahead of the next presidential election
