Osun APC Accuses Adeleke Govt of Targeting LG Workers

The Osun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has issued a fresh warning to Governor Ademola Adeleke’s administration over allegations that some local government workers are being investigated and subjected to disciplinary proceedings because of their perceived political affiliations.

The APC, in a statement signed by its Director of Media and Information, Kola Olabisi, alleged that the Osun State Local Government Service Commission had constituted a committee to investigate council employees suspected of supporting the opposition during the August 15, 2026 governorship election.

According to the party, some workers were invited before an investigative and disciplinary panel at the commission’s premises in Abere, Osogbo, where they were allegedly questioned about their political activities and contacts before and during the election.

The APC further alleged that some employees were asked to submit their mobile phones for scrutiny, with their messages and communications allegedly examined for links to APC members and supporters.

The party also raised concerns over claims that some workers were questioned about their bank accounts and transactions, particularly in relation to the continuing dispute over local government funds.

The APC described the alleged actions as victimisation and argued that public servants should not face disciplinary measures because of their political choices.

It also questioned how workers’ voting preferences could be established through the examination of phones or financial records, noting that elections are conducted through secret ballot.

The opposition party further alleged that some local government workers faced threats of suspension or dismissal and that the salary accounts of some employees had been deactivated.

The APC consequently called on Governor Adeleke to restore the affected accounts and ensure that workers receive their salaries. It also demanded the dissolution of the committee investigating the workers.

However, the Osun State Government rejected the allegations, saying the investigation was not connected to workers’ political affiliations.

The Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi, said the exercise followed a petition alleging that some employees were receiving salaries from both the state government and the APC-backed local government executives.

According to Alimi, the investigation was focused on alleged financial infractions rather than political activities, adding that workers with nothing to hide would not have cause for concern.

The governor’s spokesperson, Olawale Rasheed, also dismissed the APC’s allegations, describing them as unfounded. He said Adeleke had declared after the election that there was no winner or vanquished and had extended an olive branch to political opponents.

The disagreement is part of the wider political dispute surrounding control of local government structures in Osun State, where rival political groups have continued to contest the administration and funding of the councils.

The latest exchange between the APC and the state government has therefore renewed attention on the treatment of local government employees and the broader political tensions surrounding council administration in the state.
