Nollywood actress and filmmaker Funke Akindele has attracted attention on social media after she was absent from the premiere of Kamo State’s debut cinema movie, Star Lomo, in Lagos.
The film, produced by skit maker and actor Akinyoola Ayoola, popularly known as Kamo State, premiered on Sunday, September 20, 2026, with several personalities from the Nigerian entertainment industry in attendance.
Among those who attended the event were Iyabo Ojo, Odunlade Adekola, Lateef Adedimeji, Mo Bimpe and other entertainers. Akindele, however, was not present at the premiere, prompting some social media users to question her absence.
The attention surrounding her absence was partly linked to the previously publicised relationship between Akindele and Kamo. The pair became closely associated following their work on Everybody Loves Jenifa, after which Kamo featured in some of Akindele’s productions and promotional activities.
Akindele has also publicly supported Kamo’s career on several occasions, while Kamo has described the actress as a mentor and an important influence on his career.
Some social media users therefore expected Akindele to attend the premiere of his first cinema movie. Her absence led to questions about whether there had been a change in their relationship.
However, there is currently no confirmation from either Akindele or Kamo that the two are having a disagreement.
In July 2026, Kamo specifically dismissed rumours of a fallout with Akindele during an interview with BBC Yoruba. He explained that their reduced public appearances together were largely due to their increasingly busy professional schedules.
Kamo said at the time that they remained close and urged members of the public not to create false narratives about their relationship.
The current speculation has also been linked to Akindele’s whereabouts on the day of the premiere. Reports indicate that she was in Ghana on a staycation with singer Waje, who is part of the cast of Akindele’s forthcoming movie, The Four.
Meanwhile, reactions to the actress’ absence have been mixed. While some users questioned why she did not attend the event, others defended her and pointed to the support she has previously given Kamo.
Some fans also argued that Kamo’s career benefited significantly from his association with Akindele, including opportunities to feature in her projects and promotional content.
The debate has continued online, but Akindele has not publicly explained her absence from the premiere as of the time of reporting.
Kamo’s Star Lomo premiere nevertheless attracted considerable attention, with several entertainment personalities turning out to support his transition from skit-making to cinema filmmaking.
For now, the absence of Akindele remains a subject of social media discussion, rather than evidence of a confirmed dispute between the actress and Kamo State.
