Stakeholders and youths in Shinkafi Local Government Area of Zamfara State have declared their support for the African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate, Bilyaminu Yusuf Shinkafi, ahead of the 2027 governorship election.
The declaration was made on Thursday at the local government headquarters, where members of the group said they were seeking a change in the direction of governance in the state.
Speaking on behalf of the stakeholders, Abdulaziz Ibrahim said residents of Shinkafi were prepared to mobilise their communities in support of Shinkafi and the ADC ahead of the election.
He urged voters to assess the records, programmes and capacity of all governorship candidates before deciding who to support.
The group also criticised the All Progressives Congress (APC) administration in Zamfara over what it described as inadequate efforts to address insecurity and economic hardship affecting residents.
Ibrahim argued that public resources, including federal allocations received by the state, should result in improved living conditions for citizens.
The stakeholders said they wanted the next administration to place greater emphasis on the protection of lives and property, while creating conditions that could support investment, employment and economic development.
They also called on political parties and governorship candidates to focus their campaigns on issues affecting residents rather than personalities.
Among the issues they identified for public debate were insecurity, education, healthcare, agriculture, employment, infrastructure and economic development.
The group said security should remain a major priority for any administration seeking to govern the state.
The stakeholders further pledged to mobilise youths, community leaders and other residents across Shinkafi Local Government in support of the ADC candidate.
They said their grassroots mobilisation would focus on taking the candidate’s programmes and political message to communities across the area.
The declaration comes as political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 governorship election in Zamfara State.
The ADC has listed Bilyaminu Yusuf Shinkafi as its governorship candidate for the election, with Muhammad Abdulmuddalib Auwal named as his running mate.
The latest development adds to the political realignments taking place across Zamfara ahead of the election, with various parties and candidates seeking to strengthen their grassroots structures and mobilise voters.
The stakeholders, however, urged voters to consider the policies and programmes of the different candidates before making their choices at the polls.
