The Jigawa State Police Command has handed over cheques totalling N25.96 million to the families of 25 police officers who lost their lives while serving the country.
The cheques were presented by the Commissioner of Police, Jigawa State Command, Tijjani Murtala, during a ceremony at the command headquarters in Dutse, the state capital, on Monday.
The event was attended by members of the Command Management Team and other senior officers.
Murtala presented the cheques to the deceased officers’ next of kin on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Rilwan Disu.
He said the payments were made under the Nigeria Police Force’s Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme.
“The cheques represent benefits under the Group Life Assurance and Group Personal Accident Scheme of the Nigeria Police Force,” he stated.
According to the commissioner, “the cheques amounted to a cumulative sum of Twenty-Five Million, Nine Hundred and Sixty Thousand, Eight Hundred and Forty-Eight Naira, Seventy-Five Kobo (N25,960,848.75), only.”
Before the presentation, Murtala delivered a goodwill message to the beneficiaries on behalf of the Inspector-General of Police, expressing the sympathy and support of the Force leadership to the affected families.
He also recognised the sacrifices made by the officers during their service to the nation.
Murtala said, “Although no financial compensation could replace the lives of the fallen officers or completely assuage the pain of their loss, the gesture was a demonstration of the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to the welfare of its personnel and their families.”
He further stated that the Force would continue to provide assistance to families of deceased personnel through its available welfare programmes.
The commissioner assured the beneficiaries that “the sacrifices of the fallen officers would continue to be remembered and honoured by the Force.”
Speaking on behalf of the beneficiaries, Yusuf Muhd Tsoho thanked the Inspector-General of Police and the Jigawa State Commissioner of Police for the gesture.
He said the payment reflected the Force’s sense of responsibility towards the families of officers who died in the line of duty.
Tsoho also prayed for continued success, protection and divine guidance for the leadership and personnel of the Nigeria Police Force.
The ceremony concluded with prayers for the peaceful repose of the deceased officers and strength for their families.
