The National Chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Alhaji Abdulrahman Mohammed, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to participating fully in the 2027 general election.
Mohammed gave the assurance on Monday when he received a delegation from the International Republican Institute (IRI) election observation mission at the PDP national headquarters in Abuja.
He said the PDP had remained committed to democratic leadership in Nigeria for more than two decades, stressing that the party was prepared to participate actively in the forthcoming election.
According to him, the PDP remains a party rooted in the interests and aspirations of Nigerians, with a presence across the 36 states, the Federal Capital Territory and the 774 local government areas.
He commended the IRI delegation for its continued support for democracy in Africa and noted its recent presence in Osun State to observe Saturday’s governorship election.
Mohammed said the high voter turnout in Osun demonstrated the people’s determination to exercise their democratic rights and choose their preferred leader.
He added that the PDP would use its engagement with the delegation to outline the party’s plans and strategy for the 2027 general election.
Earlier, the IRI African Regional Director, Jenai Cox, said the delegation was in Nigeria as part of a pre-election assessment mission ahead of the 2027 polls.
Cox explained that the team was meeting with various stakeholders to assess the level of preparation for the election, understand the activities of political parties and identify key issues that would require attention as the country approaches the polls.
